9 days from / to Daugavpils

1st Day Individual arrival in Daugavpils. Here your guide will meet you and transfer you to your accommodation. The rest of the day is at leisure. The evening will end with a barbecue and bonfire. (D) 2nd Day Duration: approx. 5 hours (20 Km) After breakfast you will walk along the Daugava to the small town of Kraslava. During a guided tour through the city, your guide will introduce the history of the city for you. Different groups of people and religions live here together for centuries and have formed the city's unique character. We will visit the town castle from the time of poland-lithuania empire, the second highest wooden view tower in Latvia and a local beer brewery. Here you have the possibility to taste different beer specialties. On the way back to your accommodation, you will see a herbal team farm and learn the healing powers of the various kinds of tea. (B/L) 3rd Day Duration: 4.5 hours (20 Km.) Today you will walk along the River Daugava to the west through the natural park "Daugavas Loki". The natural park includes eight river meanders, which are considered to be the oldest formations of the Daugava Valley. Here the river flows completely natural and changes the banks of its river bed from year to year. You will walk on a path, through varieties of coniferous and mixed forests, passing lakes and lonely hamlets, to the museum village of "Slutiski".  Here you can enjoy a traditional old-time lunch and visit a farmhouse from the 18th century. Afterwards transfer back to the accommodation. (L) 4th Day Duration: approx. 5.5 hours (25 km) Today we will drive to the village Piedruja on the Latvian border. On the opposite side of the river you can see the village Druja - already on the Belarusian side. After a walk through the village, we will have lunch for the upcoming water hike. Shortly after Piedruja we board our canoes and drive along the Daugava, passing small and larger islands, through the untouched nature. The solitude is interrupted only occasionally by fishermen or a few farmsteads on the way back to the accommodation. (L) 5th Day Duration: 3 hours (14 Km) Today we hike along the EU's external border between Latvia and Belarus. The landscape and the closeness to Belarus will turn this day into an excitement. This experience, being just a few meters away from Belarus, will be memorable for all your life. The surrounding forests have a varied vegetation and offer berries and mushrooms throughout the summer. The forest berries are a delicious addition to the lunch pack. (L) 6th Day Duration: 5,5 hours (23 Km) Today we head north to Dagda. Today's hike takes us along three lakes, through fields and forests passing hamlets and villages. The route ends in Andrupene, an ethnographic museum with numerous residential and economic buildings dating back to the beginning of the 20th century. Here you will find a smithy, a grain floor and a typical black sauna. A hearty lunch with typical local cuisine awaits you here. Then transfer to your accommodation. (L) 7th Day Duration: 3.5 hours (17 km) Your itinerary takes you on a varied mix of fields and forest trails, passing five blue picturesque lakes with clear water and small typical hamlets. Enjoy free-ranging chickens and cackling geese crossing your path. In Aglona, we have a lunch break - we visit the bread museum and strengthen ourselves with homemade delicacies. After lunch, you will be taken to visit one of the best-known and most beautiful churches in the Baltics - the basilica in Aglona. This place possesses an enormous religious beam and attraction - every year, thousands of Catholics pilgrimages to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. After we return to the accommodation. (L) 8th Day Duration: 4 hours (20 Km) Today we will drive to the deepest lake in the Baltics. Lake Dridza is 65m deep and covers an area of 7.5 km². Together with other lake, it forms a chain of strings, which originated in the last ice age. The nature conservation area is a collection and nesting site for numerous bird species. Today's hiking tour takes you along the lake - far from the main roads, you can enjoy the tranquility of nature. Listen to the sound of the wind and the chirping of the birds. You will hike through varied mixed forests, past fertile fields and numerous bathing facilities. After a relaxing walking tour you will reach your destination were you will be able to taste Latvian specialties and to taste homemade herbal tea as well as bee products. Then we return to the accommodation. (L) 9th Day Today we drive back to Daugavpils. Afterwards individual return or travel.
